What Do Men Even Do?

Many men have been pushed to the limits of life and death but one unique story is that of Poon Lim. He was a Chinese sailor who survived at sea during World War II. In 1942, after a British merchant ship, SS Benlomond was torpedoed by a German U-boat— Lim was the only crew member to survive. He found a small wooden life raft and drifted alone in the Atlantic Ocean for 133 days. With limited supplies, he came up with some  ingenious ways to survive—catching fish with hooks made from wire, collecting rainwater in  canvas, and even hunting birds with his bare hands. Battling starvation, storms, and isolation, Lim was finally rescued off the coast of Brazil, having endured over four months at sea.

Men were made rough and tough. More rougher and tougher than their female counterparts, by design. However, there are many things men can’t do and not everything a man can do should be done. There’s a small wild man living in our house at the moment and that two year old is an inescapable “exhibit A.” He’s a blessing. 

Thankfully, the Bible has plenty of encouraging sections that lead men to consider what a man, young or old, can and should do. Here are some of those passages that males could spend special time in:
